MRI for structural liver diseases

With the help of special MRI sequences, it is possible to quantify parenchymal properties of the liver. An important component is MR elastography, which is used to detect liver fibrosis. In addition, the fat or iron content of the liver can be determined to gain important insights into the disease patterns of fatty liver (NASH) or hemochromatosis. MRI helps both in the initial diagnosis and in checking the response to therapy.
