Mammograhpy additional method to visualize Mammary Ducts
With the help of galactography it is possible to detect abnormal changes in the lactiferous ducts in cases of nipple discharges of unknown aetiologies.
The secreting duct in the nipple is approached with a very thin needle connected to a plastic hose and contrast media is injected into it followed by mammography in two projections (mediolateral and craniocaudal). The resulting image is called galactogram and shows changes in the lactiferous ducts of the breast. The galactography serves to detect and detect a tumor or papilloma in the duct system so that this pathological lesion can be removed operatively.
