Trans-Scan Breast-Impedance Measurement

The water-content and the concentration of ions in tumor cells are higher than in healthy cells. The altered membrane protien (due to tumor cells) and likewise increased permeability reduces the membrane potency. Malignant tissue show significant increase in conduction and capacity due to the altered thickness and orientation of the cells. The impedance measurement gives the functional picture of the breast in comparison to the morphological picture by mammography. Measurement of conductivity (shows how much electrical current flows through the tissue) and capacity (ability of the cell membrane to save electrical energy).
